On Monday, the Cowboys cut Vanderjagt a little more than eight months after making him the highest-paid kicker in team history with a three-year, $5.5 million deal that included a $2.5 million signing bonus. Dallas signed veteran Martin Gramatica as his replacement.

While the cut didn’t come as a surprise to us, their choice of a replacement makes me wonder if they’ll be gunning for Adam Vinatieri next. I see a trend taking shape here…

The Colts dump Mike Vanderjagt. The Cowboys pick him up.

The Patriots let Adam Vinatieri go. The Colts pick him up.

The Patriots release Martin Gramatica at camp. Adam Vinatieri gets hurt for a few games. The Colts pick Gramatica up for a few games. The Colts release Gramatica.

The Cowboys dump Mike Vanderjagt. The Cowboys pick up Martin Gramatica.

So the kicker chain seems to be Patriots -> Colts -> Cowboys. Interesting.
